Moonface’s first European tour to start in ‘new hometown’ Helsinki

Moonface, the project and new band of Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown mastermind Spencer Krug will start their 3 week tour 11 May in Helsinki.

January 2010 Spencer released his first Moonface record; “Dreamland EP: marimba and shit drums”, a year later followed by “Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I’d Hoped.

The titles say it all. One album full with the beautiful sounds of a Marimba and some electronic ‘shit’ drums. And the other album originally meant to be a percussion album done with a vibraphone and some sparse guitar. But in the end it became a modified organ instead of vibraphone. HIs latest work to date is his collaboration with Siinai. The finnish progressive krautrock group with members of Joensuu 1685, a band who supported Wolf Parade on their 2009 tour. “Heartbreaking Bravery” is an ambitious album with Spencers addiction to melody and pop and Siinai’s love for simplicity and their rare patience for music that slowly evolves. Something somewhere in the middle was created. “Moonface with Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery”.

Bands that people find hard to put in a box are often the coolest. Berlin/Copenhagen based Pinkunoizu is one of these wild treasures. Their perfect cocktail of “lo-fi, high-life, modern composition music, ancient folkish songwriting, Asian 60′s pop and future post-apocalyptic underwater rock”, as they like to call it themselves, does not even scratch the surface. Ha! But it gives you an idea you should dust off your open mind, get the Pitchfork outta your eye and go experience this band live. One of the best European bands around. Danish electronic dream pop outfit Sleep Party People is one of the treasures of the Scandinavian music scene. The sound that originated in the bedroom studio of frontman/songwriter Brian Batz is spooky, mysterious and intense like a David Lynch movie.
